Bendemeer/Banalasta Winery 40km north of Tamworth

James Hardy

Bendemeer hotel

Di and I took a drive up North toward Armidale yesterday. Our first stop was the Bendemeer Pub. It’s in a lovely setting  overlooking a river. I played golf with the owner of the Pub the day before. Its one of the few Pubs with a little atmosphere and character in this area. They have Platypuses in the River in front of the hotel which is interesting.

Further up the road is the Banalasta Winery.  They produce various products from Lavender and Eucalyptus.  Nice place off the New England Highway –  The wine is not bad considering that it is in the granite country – We think we have now seen most of the area around Tamworth – We concentrated on about a 200km radius. Talking about wine we have our Wine Tasting  club meeting mid August.  I will be doing the SWORD/CHAMPAGNE thing (Sabrage)  When we started this some years ago we opened 18 bottles – this is a little more of a refined crowd so I think it will be a bottle or two.

“NEWS! – For the third year running, wine guru James Halliday, awards 5 black stars out of 5 to Blickling Estate in his 2009 Australian Wine Companion. He notes that our wines have “been consistently at or near the top for this period” and is considered to be the “leader of the pack in New England”.

“In October of 2009 at the New England Wine Show Blickling Estate picked up two awards – Best Aromatic White – for the Blickling Estate 2009 Riesling and Best non-aromatic white – for the Blickling Estate 2008 Unwooded Chardonnay.  FREE Sunday entertainment from 12-3pm. Download the flyer here. The following musical artists will be playing: ”

•1st Nov: Donella & Dale Duncan •6th Dec: Jarrod Scott •3rd Jan: Those Girls

  2. It has been my great pleasure, for the past 32 years, to create a collection of wine labels from my home in northern California. It would be with great pleasure to be able to include your labels in my collection. Thank you very much for your consideration.

    • Hi Ken,
Thanks for the request but you might need to write directly to the vineyard.
Just do a google search and you will find the site and write directly.
